PICNIC is about innovative ideas for business, people and society. It is a platform that brings together people from diverse backgrounds who like to exchange ideas and insights and are keen to expose themselves to ideas outside their own area of expertise.
In 2011, they builded a city around the theme Urban Futures. And for their promotion, PICNIC Festival 2011 introduced the PICNIC Poster Project. Inviting leading designers and agencies from their international networks to make artwork for the festival in the form of posters. The powerful visuals will be used in a variety of ways, from promotion online and offline to physical and screen-based applications at the festival itself. The variety of images will help them create a diverse and eclectic atmosphere – just like you’d find in a real city.
With ‘Urban Future’ as main theme, with 5 underlying sub-themes. Each with it’s own shape and color. Society, Design, Media, Sustainibility and Infrastructure.
The serie ‘Layer’ visualizes these themes, each with it’s own symbol. All connected and build out of it’s own shape, representing their own ‘layer’ to a “Urban Future”.
Keeping it pure and simple, I left the images itselves black and white, makes the color and symbol stand out more. All the images where papercut by hand.
